Our vineyard tours typically last around 60 to 90 minutes, including a guided walk through the farm and vineyard and a relaxed wine tasting. If you’d like to enjoy breakfast, lunch or a glass of wine in the restaurant afterwards, please book for 1.30pm.

Our tours are designed for everyone, whether you’ve never visited a vineyard before or you’re already passionate about English wine. We keep things relaxed, friendly and jargon-free, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions along the way. You’ll also learn about other crops grown at Heron Farm too, originally planted by Mark Diacono – acclaimed food writer and former head gardener of River Cottage.

The wines available for tasting vary throughout the year, depending on what’s currently available. Your tasting may include wines made from our Solaris, Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes, giving you the opportunity to explore the styles that thrive in Devon’s unique climate.

Absolutely.

All of the wines featured during your tasting are available to purchase from our farm shop, so you can take a little piece of Heron Farm home with you or pick up a bottle as a gift.

The vineyard is a working farm, so we recommend comfortable clothing and sensible footwear suitable for walking on uneven ground. A waterproof jacket is always worth bringing, as the British weather likes to keep us on our toes!

Yes. We believe the vineyard is beautiful in every season and most tours continue in light rain. If the weather is particularly severe, we’ll adapt the experience where possible to ensure everyone stays comfortable.

Children are welcome to visit Heron Farm with their families, although the vineyard tours and wine tastings are primarily designed for adults. Families often enjoy combining a visit with lunch in the restaurant, exploring the gardens or spending time in our play area.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in many outdoor areas of Heron Farm. As we’re a working vineyard and farm (with animals), we ask that dogs remain on a lead at all times.

Much of the tour takes place outdoors across vineyard paths and uneven ground, which may not be suitable for all visitors with limited mobility. If you have any accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking and we’ll be happy to discuss how we can help.

We offer free on-site parking, including InstaVolt rapid EV charging, making Heron Farm an easy stop whether you’re visiting from Exeter, Honiton, the Jurassic Coast or travelling on to Cornwall.

Our seasonal restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and supper using ingredients from our kitchen garden alongside the very best local produce. Many guests make a morning or afternoon of their visit by combining a vineyard tour with lunch.

Heron Farm is more than a vineyard. It’s a place to eat, explore and restore.

Alongside our vineyard tours you’ll find a seasonal restaurant, beautiful walled garden, kitchen garden, orchard, farm shop, creative workshops and wellbeing experiences, making it easy to spend an entire day enjoying everything the estate has to offer.

The simple answer is there’s no wrong time to visit—every season offers something different.

• Spring (March–May): Watch the vines awaken as buds burst into life and the vineyard turns green once again.
• Summer (June–August): The vineyard is at its most vibrant, with flourishing vines, warm evenings and plenty of activity in the restaurant and gardens.
• Autumn (September–October): Harvest season is one of the most exciting times to visit, when months of careful work culminate in picking the grapes.
• Winter (November–February): We close tours during the winter season, it’s a quieter, more peaceful time that we spend preparing for the next growing season.

Every visit offers a different perspective, which is why so many of our guests return throughout the year.
